Nate Davis - On Hanging Out at Hargraves (clip)

Alexander Stephens: Do you have any favorite stories or memories of being here as a youth? Anything that you want on the record, I know there might be some things you don’t want recorded, [Laughter] but any stories you got from when you were young here? We can go in the shade if you want.

Nate Davis: Well, you know, [I] can’t really think of any. We could hang out [at Hargraves], we could hang out. We didn’t have to go, you know, down on Franklin Street, or somewhere else to hangout. We could hang out on the ball field, and sometimes we would sit on the ball field, [until] maybe two or three o’clock in the morning, you know, when we got a little bit older, you know, in the summertime. Our parents knew where we were, [and] the police knew where we were. And sometimes we would go in the swimming pool, and go swimming, which was unsafe, you know, and I’m pretty sure it was illegal at the time to go into the pool when the facilities were closed. But the police would come over, and you know [say], “you guys know you aren’t supposed to be in there,” and “get out” and we would get out. It was just a place to hang out and be safe and have fun, so that’s what we did, you know.
