Nate Davis - Navy B-1 Band (clip)

Nate Davis: The construction was delayed when the B-1 Navy Band, which was a band that came to Chapel Hill to perform on campus and throughout the state, for the governor and for the Navy ROTC. It was an all-Black navy band that were put together to come here to perform. When they came they didn’t have a place to live, so they stayed in Hargraves. And, so that’s when it was put on hold as far as being completed as a community center. And then it was turned back over to the community after the Navy Band left. The Navy Band completed construction of the facility and it was turned back over to the community and at that point it was used as a recreation center in Chapel Hill.
