Nate Davis - On Basketball Trips (clip)

Interviewed by Alexander Stephens on April 17, 2012

Nate Davis: And at Hargraves, when Fred, we called him “Toro,” Fred Battle was working here. You know sometimes he would just come into work and say, “Davis let’s go.” And I said, “Where are we going Mr. Battle.” And he would say, “Today, we’re just going to get a bus.” We used to have a bus in Parks and Rec. “We’re gonna get the bus and we’re gonna take a trip down to Soul City. Let’s get some kids and we gonna take a trip,” you know. We had a basketball team and we played in every recreational league. That was then Raleigh, Durham, Greensboro, High Point, [and] Charlotte area. He would come in and say, “Let’s go.” We would get two or three cars and load the guys up. Make some bologna sandwiches and make some Kool-Aid and go play basketball all day. It kept the kids busy and things like that and we had fun doing those things.
