David Caldwell: The Army, our father was in the military, did about 26 years, first sergeant, field artillery. What else did he do… so anyway after that, I went in. My brother already had gone in, he graduated high school early, went into the Marine Corps. It was some unique stuff, we were playing at South Carolina, University of South Carolina, and one of the guys from Chapel Hill was on the team. He said David, I just saw your brother on TV. I said no he's in Washington at the 8th and I. Said, well yeah he's on TV. We flipped the TV on after lunch and it was President Johnson's funeral, and he was one of the pallbearers over there and we were like wow that is him, sure is. And so that’s what, and I asked him and he told me, so what does the 8th and I? It’s a ceremonial detachment in Washington they do funerals and ceremonies and all these different things. Very elite group. So he ended up there–. So I finished school, let's say do what I did, went into the military, was a military policeman stationed at Fort Bragg when we finished. The thing about Bragg is you'll leave, but you'll always come back. I think my first two years there I was home maybe three months, rest of it was being deployed all over the country and all over the world. Grenada, participated in an invasion. Went back a second time and trained a Caribbean peacekeeping force, which were cops from Trinidad, all of the islands, training those. Finished up there, tons of stories about that one. We finished up there, went to Germany, Heidelberg. I was a bodyguard for Jones, Crowson, and Forrester at the Keyes Building in Heidelberg, Germany, just outside of Mannheim and down the road from Frankfurt. I did that, got out, came back to Bragg, this is when we went to Grenada, and finished up there and got out. Went into reserves as a drill sergeant. I did that for a year or so, and then I went on and ended my service.
