Terrence Foushee - On teaching at Northwood (clip)

Terrence Foushee (TF): I taught at Northwood for about 8 and a half years.

Kathryn Wall (KW): Did you go from that to a different school to teach English or to a different role?

TF: I transitioned to the job that I’m in now, and that is the Blue Ribbon Specialist for the Blue Ribbon Mentor Advocate program for Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools. So no longer teaching in the classroom but I consider it, I guess, not necessarily like in-class teaching, but I still feel like I’m in a teacher’s role. I also have to keep my license up to date in order to keep the job, but I also have kind of what I consider like counselor responsibilities and one of the things that I really appreciate about my job and still working in education, is that now I specifically work with students of color, which has been a great opportunity, but I also am not, my job is not necessarily critiqued by EOC scores, you know like EVAAS data, I get to spend more of my time finding out what my students want and how I can help them achieve those goals specifically, while also finding more enrichment and engaging activities for the student population that I work with.
