Terrence Foushee - On his parents (clip)

Interviewed by Kathryn Wall on July 23, 2024

Kathryn Wall (KW): You mentioned your family being known in the community. Can you just back up and then tell us who your parents are and how long your family has been in this community?

Terrence Foushee (TF): So my family has been here for a few generations. In the Foushee family, my dad, Stanley Foushee Sr., was the fire marshall for the Carrboro Fire Department for years. My mother, Valerie Foushee, worked for the police department but also was very well-known in politics. She served as the school board chair - I think from about 1997 to 2003 - and then she was the county commissioner and then moved to the North Carolina NCGA. She served as a state senator but also as a state representative. And now, she’s in Congress. [Laughter] So, the Foushee name in Chapel Hill is pretty well-known.

KW: And so - getting involved - her first involvement in politics was getting involved in the school system because she had children in the school system.

TF: Yes.
