Rani Dasi - On being homeschooled (clip)

Rani Dasi: So, I grew up in Cleveland, Ohio and I’m one of ten children and we were homeschooled, so I got to see how, again, that support really makes a difference in education but also the range of ways in which people can learn and, again, that pace of like everybody doesn’t have to be reading when they’re four. Some people read when they are six and that’s okay. So, my mom was an educator and just an amazing human being who exposed us to a lot of different things. And I went to public school when I was in sixth grade and it was a very interesting experience of moving away from this kind of individual-based learning to everybody is expected to know the same thing because you are ten, eleven, or twelve. And that also gave me some insights into thinking about how education could be structured differently to support different needs.
