Collene Riggsbee Rogers - Resistance to plumbing (clip)

Interviewed by Kathryn Wall on March 11, 2023

Collene Riggsbee Rogers: But nobody wanted to work with Daddy because Daddy did plumbing. [Laughter] But it was so funny because Bobby’s friends were always at our house. If Bobby was working and wasn’t there they always stopped by because they always liked sitting down and talking to Mama. So if they come and Daddy comes and he’ll say “where’s Bobby,” and Bobby’s at work he’ll call his friends and say “Come on, I need you to go with me…somebody” and they would never say no. They’d look at us and then they’d get up and say “Ok, Mr. Walter.” and they’d go. But then if they came by and they see Daddy coming down the street they’d say “Okay, I’ll talk to you all later,” and they’d start leaving. Because they know that they would be called and they would never say no. So when their parents called they would always call and find out if they’re over there and my mother would tell them yeah and he’d say “Okay, I just wanted to know. I’m not worried as long as they’re there.” So they were always okay with them always being there. And I think they put of one of then basketball hoops in the back so everybody came to shoot marbles and play basketball and stuff like that.
