Arminta Foushee - On changes at University Mall (clip)

Interviewed by Kathryn Wall on September 29, 2022

Arminta Foushee (AF): They used to have nice flagship stores there.

Kathryn Wall (KW): You know, when I first moved to Chapel Hill the Belk was still there.

AF: Mm-hmm. Yeah. And Ivey’s… that was a really upscale store. But they ran out of business. I don't know if there are any Ivey’s left anymore. That nice stuff… yeah [pause] you know… There’s my granddad doing what he did best [laughs] and he’s with one of my grand- my- one of my grandmother’s sister’s husband. My grandmother’s sister Fanny. So… her husband is Larny, so that’s Granddaddy and Uncle Larny. He’s giving one of his prayers before a meal [laughs].

KW: He’s getting ready to eat a cold dinner right? [laughs]

AF: For sure. My mom kept all kinds of stuff. We have to get to her one day [because] she was just a character.
