There have always been ties between the Black community in southern Orange County and the Black community in nearby Durham, North Carolina. Neighbors from Chapel Hill and Carrboro remember visiting friends and family in Durham, attending college there at NC Central University, and shopping for clothes and other items in Durham's stores.
