William “Smitty” Smith - Good Masonry (clip)

Interviewed by Danielle Dulken on January 15, 2023

William Smith: That’s the very difficult question because masons, I’ll give you an example, we had a mason one time come to work with a pair of white shoes. He worked all day and when he left his shoes were still white. No mortar on them at all and the quality of his work was superb. Okay now you got other masons who are sloppy who work all day, and they got as much mortar on the group as they got on the wall. But that’s it. You got different degrees of masons. Some are very neat, some are very sloppy. So, if you were watching a mason, you could tell which one you would want to build your house or do a job for you and that’s very simple. You just watch them.

Danielle Dulken: The one with the white sneakers.

William Smith: Yeah
