Vernelle Brooks Jones and Charles Brooks - Family Legacy (clip)

Interviewed by Kathryn Wall on March 11, 2023

Vernelle Brooks Jones: I would say that you know they were very persistent in their trade. In spite of the lack of funds and lack of opportunities and all the other things that go around that, they ended up being successful builders. And to this day, the legacy of what they did years ago is still here and people still remember who they are and who they were and what they did for the community. It is truly an honor to be part of this family and to know that so many people respected and appreciated what the Brooks Construction did for them personally. I mean, even at my dad’s funeral, an outpouring of people in Black and white communities came. I was just blown away. I had no idea the reach they had in these areas; it was phenomenal.
