Veronita Hargraves - On her family's legacy at Hargraves (clip)
Interviewed on August 12, 2022
Veronita Hargraves (VH): Hello everyone. Can you hear me?
Crowd: Yes!
VH: Wonderful. Hi! It’s so wonderful to see all your faces. This has been an honor. Thank you for inviting me, Kathy. I did not know my Dad, unfortunately. He passed when I was 22 months old, but growing up [people would say] “You’re Billie’s child aren’t you?” “Yes, I am.” I also came to camp here at Hargraves Center a number of times. One of the things that I got asked a lot growing up: “Oh, your family is rich. Y’all owned the Hargraves Center.” “No, no. We don’t own it.” It was named after my father which is a great honor and a wonderful legacy for my family and just to know how it has impacted this community, because you have so many communities with children of minorities that do not have access to a pool and fortunately Chapel Hill has a pool that’s been here for over 50 years. It’s fantastic. Thank you all again for coming and thank you to the Jackson Center for sponsoring this wonderful occasion.
