Minister Robert Campbell - On the builders in his family
Interviewed by Hudson Vaughan on October 29, 2018Minister Robert Lee Campbell recalls the impact his grandfather and uncles had on the development of the Northside neighborhood and prominent buildings across Chapel Hill’s campus. Minister Campbell explains how his and other African American families from the neighborhood worked together, teaching youth building skills and expanding their building influence throughout North Carolina. Minister Campbell also describes the value his uncles and grandfather put into their work, so much so, that they were sought out by UNC professors, business owners on Franklin Street and other Chapel Hill and Carrboro small businesses and families to build and lay bricks. In the end of the interview, Minister Campbell, and interviewer, Hudson Vaughan, plan to visit some of the notable Northside homes and other infrastructure that his family’s builders have been recognized for and remain respected for over the years.
