Louise Felix - Praise for work (clip)

Interviewed by Kathryn Wall on October 4, 2022

Louise Felix: I know when the man came from State to do the job and I went over there across the street and I was talking to him and he said, I was telling him about how my grandaddy built the school. And he said, “What?” And I said, “Yeah he and all of his sons.” And he told me to come around there in the back. And we walked around the back. He said, “Look that’s one of the nicest schools that is in North Carolina, that school that is over there now.” He just didn’t realize that they had that much land back there. He said, “Mrs. Felix, I need to tell you something.” I said, “Yes sir.” He said, “They don’t do work like your grandaddy did back there, this school here. But they did good work and took their time and got what they wanted and stuff like that.” They really worked hard and because they knew all that and they didn’t have all those blueprints and stuff back then. My grandaddy and them, they really came from people that worked and had to work.
