Belinda Caldwell - Speaking about her career and life in Northside

She begins by describing her family history then goes into detail about her personal history to Northside. She mentions that there is a significant difference between how her kids grew up and how she grew up. Belinda had only good things to say about her career as a telephone operator. She says she had good rapport with the University of North Carolina. She gives a chronological order of her career as an operator and how they moved and changed over the years. She describes briefly the newspaper article she brought in and how she was interviewed for that because of her many years of service. Ms.Belinda says she worked up until her last day. She explains how many people living in the neighborhood also worked at the University as either a police officer, like her husband, or a teacher or librarian. The interview concludes with a conversation around Mrs. Caldwell’s children and her experiences with the neighbors. She shares that she really has no issues with any of the students or the noise because she had children that went to the University. She says the neighbors that aren’t the longtime residents either range from being friendly or never socializing.
