Swimming at the Center: The History of Hargraves Community Center and the A.D. Clark Pool

This short documentary film, created by the Marian Cheek Jackson Center’s staff, tells the story of the A.D. Clark Pool and Hargraves Community Center through the voices of the people who grew up there. The film traces over 80 years of community life — from children swimming in contaminated creeks under segregation to a hard-won pool, from a center the community built stone-by-stone for itself to the annual pool parties that reclaim it every summer.
